Flat-fee vs revenue-share affiliate apps: what they really cost
June 4, 2026 · 4 min read
Most Shopify affiliate apps price one of two ways: a flat monthly fee, or a percentage of the sales your affiliates generate (a "revenue share", sometimes framed as a commission on commissions). The headline price can look similar at first — but they diverge fast as your program grows.
The math
Say your affiliates drive $20,000/month and the app takes a 2% revenue share. That's $400/month, or $4,800/year — and it climbs every time the program succeeds. A flat $49/month plan is $588/year, regardless of whether your affiliates drive $20k or $200k. The better your program does, the bigger the gap.
Why it matters
Affiliate apps get expensive exactly when they start working — which is the worst time to be punished. A percentage cut also disincentivizes you from scaling the channel. A flat fee aligns the tool's cost with the value you get (the software), not with your success.
The flat-fee option
Override is a flat-fee multi-tier affiliate app for Shopify: $19–$99/month depending on the features you need, never a percentage of your referral sales. Try the calculator on our comparison page to see what a revenue share would cost your store.
