Recurring affiliate commissions: pay affiliates for repeat orders
June 5, 2026 · 4 min read
Standard affiliate programs pay on the first order an affiliate refers. But for subscriptions, supplements, coffee, skincare — anything customers reorder — most of the lifetime value comes later. Recurring commissions credit the original affiliate when their referred customer buys again, even without clicking the link or using the code a second time.
Why it matters
It aligns incentives: affiliates promote products that actually retain customers, not just one-time impulse buys, because they keep earning on the relationship they started. That tends to attract higher-quality partners and longer promotion.
The privacy-safe way to do it
Linking repeat orders to an affiliate means recognising the same customer over time — without storing personal data. Override does this with a one-way hash of the customer's id (never their email, name or address). The first affiliate to refer a customer 'owns' their repeat orders; an explicit code or link on a later order always takes precedence for that specific order.
Set a sensible window
- Lifetime: the original affiliate earns on every future order (great for subscriptions).
- Windowed: only orders within N days of the first order recur — useful if you want to reward early influence but not indefinitely.
In Override, recurring commissions are a one-toggle Scale feature with a configurable window — no extra code, no PII, fully attributed across your tiers.
